The above photo is a view of the Pine Nut Mountains right about Ludwig, Nevada. They are filled with
some very beautiful minerals. They have colorful oxidized copper deposits about metamorphic rocks. The marble and skarns
show the tale.
We have expanded our extensive California travels to include the Central Western area of Nevada in the greater
Tahoe Area, and have found several new mineral specimens including lovely green garnets, beautifully included quartz crystals,
Many different copper minerals, and very well formed vesuvianite crystals. We hope you enjoy these new additions to our collection
and keep checking for newly added specimens to this website.
A favorite collecting place recently is the ridge at Mount Clover, Zirnville (between the Monarch Mine and
the Oleana #8), Gardnerville, Douglas County, Nevada.
I cruised along the snowlined ridge in the 'old AWD Honda Civic. I stopped, hopped out and took a brisk hike in
golashes; quickly disappearing from sight of the vehicle towards many of the tunnels in the ridgeside. Along the
pines I saw an old claim marker that said I was standing on the Rawhide #2 claim. There were 2.5 cm quartz crystals the
girth of a pencil with calcite and adularia, pyritohedrons, talc, clinozoisite, and California jade in the
immediate area. Chrome vesuvianite, grossular garnet, epidote and tremolite crystals were occasionally found in many of the
lower dumps.
